The single teaser sketch issued alongside the announcement of the event lines up nicely with previous glimpses of the next car to come from Nissan’s premium sub-brand. Looking at the QX50 Concept revealed earlier this year at the Detroit Motor Show, similar lines – in particular the kink in the C-pillar – are hinted at in the drawing. A rakish rear end is also alluded to.
The new generation design language employed on the QX50 means up front a large grille with an oversized badge is flanked by narrow headlights with LED lighting signatures. A muscular looking front bumper with large air intakes appears to sit underneath it.
Ford's bookkeeping at the time was "truly a never-never land," David Halberstam wrote later in The Reckoning, a landmark book that chronicled the ills of America's auto industry.
All this time, Faraday has also been effectively functioning without a formal CEO in place; Yueting had assumed the informal role of company head as its main financial backer, juggling it among his many other commitments in China. In the U.S., it can be said that former BMW exec and Faraday Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer Stefan Krause has been the public face of the company for the past eight months.
Elon Musk promised the upgrade back in August, after responding to a driver’s tweet requesting easier entry and exit in and out of his Tesla.
Why? Well, while the Sierra was fed by an old-fashioned carburettor, the Cavalier had that 'i' for injection in its name. This gave it the legs not just over the Sierra but also the Fiat Croma and Mazda 626 we ran it against, vanquishing their top speeds with a heady 120mph flat out and streaking from 0-60mph in 8.9sec – one second clear of the Sierra and two whole clicks quicker than the Croma.
A software update introduced the Chill Mode, which can be accessed via the on-board infotainment screen. In the software update notification, it says that Chill Mode is ‘ideal for smoother driving and a gentler ride for passengers’.
Until a relatively short time ago, Faraday Future was principally funded by Chinese billionaire Jia Yueting, whose main business is the internet and telecom giant LeEco. Yueting's businesses kept Faraday afloat up until this spring, when unpaid loan payments forced a court in China to freeze some $182 million in assets. As this source of cash dried up, Faraday Future embarked on a cash-raising campaign this spring, seeking to attract new investors mostly by publishing videos of the FF91 prototype. The startup was also forced to drop plans for a $1 billion factory just outside of Las Vegas and sought out a smaller existing facility in California with some effort. The halt of LeEco funding has also forced Faraday to place its Formula E team into hibernation, and to whittle down a planned lineup of seven electric models to just two.
As standard, every X2 will come with BMW's iDrive infotainment and navigation system presented on a 6.5in screen (although that can grow to an 8.8in touchscreen if drivers select an upgraded set-up). The system is similar to that in the new 5 Series this year and can be had in conjunction with an optional head-up display, which projects speed and navigation instructions directly into the driver's field of vision.
